Gentle Bodied with Fruity and Fresh Sweet Umami Aftertaste
This premium-grade organic Shiraore stem tea brews an exquisite, mild buttery-sweet liquor, with hints of umami and fruity aromas
Shiraore is a premium Kukicha tea that stands out for its refined and sophisticated flavour profile, crafted from the stems, stalks, and twigs of the tea plant that are typically unused in regular Gyokuro or high-grade Sencha production. What sets Chiyo-no Shiraore apart is that it is made from premium-grade Sencha tea plant parts, which results in a truly exceptional tea with a delightful blend of sweet and nutty flavours and a heavenly aroma.
This tea owes its distinctive taste and scent to the high concentration of L-Theanine, a natural compound that originates from the roots of the tea tree and is distributed to the leaves. When brewed, it releases a robust green tea aroma that invigorates the senses. The taste is mild yet incredibly satisfying, with fruity citrus notes that mingle seamlessly with hints of steamed asparagus and barley.
One of Shiraore's unique characteristics is its low caffeine content, making it suitable for children or as a calming drink before bedtime. This tea is a must-try for anyone looking for a unique and delightful tea-drinking experience.
Shiraore is also known as “Kukicha”(茎茶, twig tea), or "Karigane"(雁が音, wild goose) in other regions of Japan, such as Kyoto. It is another specialty of Kyushu Island, where the tea is carefully cultivated and processed to achieve the perfect flavour.
For the best drinking experience, we recommend steeping the tea leaves in hot water at 80°C for about a minute. A teaspoon of tea leaves is sufficient for 200 ml of water. Give Shiraore a try and discover the unique and exquisite flavour of this premium Kukicha tea.
This Sencha comes from a small tea garden operated by husband and wife farmers/producers deep in the mountains of Yabe Village, Fukuoka, Japan. Established by his grandfather, this 3rd generation farm specializes in high-grade mountain-grown Sencha and Gyokuro. The mountainous village, blessed with cool weather, is covered with snow in winter. Due to these conditions, the tea leaves in the mountains bud later than their counterparts on flat lands. Furthermore, there are fewer pests and the tea plants are able to grow without the use of chemicals, leading to the production of natural organic tea leaves.
These farmers have received Japan's highest agricultural prize, and the Minister's Award, three times. They are one of Japan's highly regarded farmers.
