Our Full-Hand 64 prong Shin Tsuneho Chasen is a stunning example of the traditional art of bamboo whisk-making, passed down through the generations of the Hirata family for over 500 years since the Muromachi Period. Expertly crafted by 20th-generation artist Hirata Kazuhisa in Takayama, Nara prefecture, Japan, each whisk is a unique masterpiece of artisanal skill and precision.

To create our Chasen, Hirata-san begins by selecting the finest white Hachiku bamboo from the Kansai region. This bamboo is then carefully dried and seasoned for three years, ensuring the ideal balance of strength and flexibility. Once matured, the bamboo is smoked to impart its signature dark hue. The prongs of the whisk are meticulously shaped by hand using the highly acclaimed "fingertip art" technique, a revered skill now practised by only a few selected master artisans in the Takayama village, the northwest region of Nara prefecture. Hirata-san meticulously shapes the prongs of the whisk by hand. This technique results in prongs that are not only functional but also visually stunning, showcasing the mastery of the artisan's craft.

Care: Wash and rinse only the prongs with water by hand removing all residue of matcha, do not use soap, let it dry naturally without using the Chasen stand until properly dried to prevent mould. Avoid getting the handle wet. Use a Chasen stand to keep it in shape. Because of its handmade nature, this utensil is not microwave, oven, or dishwasher safe.
